The Straight Talk Express

I found this video quite interesting and felt that as election time is drawing ever closer, it may be a good idea to present some opinionated videos and information on each of the candidates. The views expressed in the video do not necessarily reflect the views of myself or this blog. We are here to present you with information and draw your own conclusions.

Wanted: Alternatives to Oil

Which everything on earth going up as a result of the oil crisis, it is becoming more and more evident that sitting around and doing nothing in relation to alternative energy is getting us nowhere. Oil industries make too much money and lobby politicians and auto makers alike to avoid experimenting with and implementing alternative energy within our society. We have become as dependent on oil as we are on food, which also happens to be going up as a result of the oil companies greed. Well, oil companies, your wonderful cash flow will not be continuing for much longer. One of two things will happen: alternative energies will begin to be integrated into our society or the American economy will implode. While we continue complaining over raising fuel costs, the Brazilian government is continuing to implement a form of ethanol derived from sugar cane. Not only is this type of fuel easy to make, it is also cheap and very effective. Sugar cane ethanol avoids the costly effects of corn derived ethanol and is a solution to our own energy crisis. We ultimately have two options that face us: Address the energy issue now and develop alternatives to oil or literally suffer the consequences.

Obama Vs. Clinton: Overtime

Do not get me wrong, I am quite confident Barack Obama will become the Democratic nominee, but Hillary Clinton is at the very least making things quite interesting. As Obama continues to get super delegates and Democrats push for Clinton to withdraw her candidacy, she continues to prove she belongs in the race. I feel that too many people fail to understand the general premise of politics, especially United States politics. Politicians should not run solely for their party nor put the good of the party before the good of the country. Democratic and Republican constituents run two of the best corporations our country has ever seen. With tonight's victory in West Virginia, Hillary Clinton has reaffirmed that she is still present within the political circle. Barack Obama can continue to address John McCain and ignore Clinton all he likes, but with Clinton continuing to win in key primary states, that may very well prove to be a costly mistake. As Clinton has stated, "it's not over till the lady in the pants suit says it is."

Obama Locks Up Nomination

While Hillary Clinton continues to campaign, one thing has become very clear; Barack Obama has won the Democratic nomination for President. I say this not only because every news outlet is reporting the same thing, but that Obama has proven he can overcome pretty much anything thrown at him. All negatives that his opponents have mustered against him, have completely failed to negatively affect his campaign in any way. Sure, many people grew angry and weary at him over the Reverend Wright issue, but during Tuesdays primaries Obama proved he can still get votes. Obama should now set his focus on his Republican opponent, John McCain. Clinton still has a very solid opportunity at being named Obama's Vice-President, although John Edwards or Bill Richardson are they most likely candidates.

Money and Politics

It has often been said that both money and politics go hand in hand. To be successful in politics, you have to have money. The argument is valid, as of course gaining political power in itself is a money game. We see on TV each night how each candidate is spending their campaign money, who has a surplus of funds and who is hitting it rough. I recall reading an article not too far back addressing the possibility of whether or not a middle class person could ever ascend to the highest seat in the nation. While I like to think this possible, it is clear that without adequate funding, no candidate can ever really be successful. Therefore, while citizens of all classes have the opportunity to run for political office, only the wealthy have the opportunity to win. Keep in mind that I am addressing higher positions, not small state or local offices. That very message itself is quite moronic, that although we are "all created equal" according to the constitution, the wealthier will always have a say in how us financially less fortunate individuals lead our lives. I understand money and I understand politics and I am well aware that this is the way it is and essentially always has been. However, I like to think that somewhere down the line in the history of our country, a candidate from the poorer classes will emerge and gain the support of the American Majority (middle and lower classes) to become president of our great country.
